BLUES IN HEAVEN

by Joel Eckels

/

about

This is a song I wrote the day I found out my friend Mike Freas had passed away in 2017. Mike was a bluesman and a friend/mentor to many musicians in LA. This song and lyrics came to me after listening to his music that day. I feel like he helped write it

lyrics

I dont understand
What the good lord has for a plan
I dont understand
He’s just taking me from all my friends
I’ve never been a spiritual man
Music is my only religion
They say there’s something better, this ain’t even the end
I just hope they play the blues up in Heaven

Yeah I know the tale
Of the devil and that crossroad sale
I know the story so well
Had to go and see for myself
Not buying into voodoo or spells
At the end of the day, it’s just the cards that we’re dealt
But, if Robert Johnson ever found a way out of hell
I hope he plays the blues up in Heaven

I dont understand
What the good lord has for a plan
I dont understand
He’s just taking me from all my friends
I’ve never been a spiritual man
Music is my only religion
They say there’s something better, this ain’t even the end
Just hope they play the blues up in Heaven
