about

I wanted this song to be very bare bones and really just the guitar and vocal for the majority of the song. I knew the bridge section needed to build into something big and dynamic, but I wasn't sure how I was going to go about it.

In the studio, we captured a really great take that had all of the emotion and soul that I wanted for the song. I'm so happy we got it since I've always had a special place in my heart for this tune, but never felt like I had the definitive version that said it all.

Once we got it, we knew, so it then became a matter of how to approach the middle section. I had the idea of slide already, but since I had been playing with the lapsteel for "Valentine", I decided to try it and it came to life. I really had fun working out the steel part for this and love how it turned out.

lyrics

GIRL

Wait a minute Baby, there’s so much to say
All I want is communication
Guess it got in the way
It was over when we started
Thought it’d never hurt to try
It’s hard to deal with broken hearted
When you just ask your self why

CHORUS:
You can see it in her eyes, She’s got soul
That’s the kind of girl you take home
Well it might be too late when you know
That she’s not the kind of girl you let go

She’s the spirit when you need it
Like a glass of red wine
She’s the hope when you’re defeated
So don’t make her cry
I said, “Girl, you’re too beautiful for this shady bar”
Then we went back to my apartment
Spun The Concert in Central Park
Then we made love til the sun stopped the dark

CHORUS
You can see it in her eyes, She’s got soul
That’s the kind of girl you take home
Well it might be too late when you know
That she’s not the kind of girl you let go
She’s not that kind of girl, no

Bring me back my baby
I’m lost without my baby
Been too long without my baby
Don’t say it’s too late
Don’t say it’s too late
Don’t say it’s too late

CHORUS
You can see it in her eyes, She’s got soul
That’s the kind of girl you take home
Well it might be too late when you know
That she’s not the kind of girl you let go
