Just Don't Know

from The Weight Of These Things by Joel Eckels

/

about

This song was actually taken from two different song ideas that ended up fitting together perfectly. I had the verses written almost exactly how they are now, but a whole different chorus. Then, one day, I found a voice recording of me singing what is now the chorus. I didn't intend for it to go with the other lyrics, but somehow, it was meant to be and made complete sense. It's kind of one of those subconscious/magical things about songwriting where the muse has a plan and you just need to see it through.

This was one of the most challenging songs to put together because the original live performance was not played to a click track. It made it very tricky to add the drums ad other instruments because it is such a rhythmic song. I'd have to say there was some struggle involved, but I couldn't be happier with the end result. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album now.

Just Don’t Know
Lyrics by Joel Eckels

I’m a fool cuz I loved you
I’m a fool cuz I love what you do
You get off on it, don’t you
Listen to me sweat you while I sing this tune
I know that you’re no good for me
But I find ito so hard to believe

Chorus:
I just don’t know how to let go
Just don’t know how to say no
I wish you’d pick up the phone
Cuz I just don’t know how to be alone

I always knew you were nasty
Like the time we got down on my balcony
Never knew there was a lie you’d get past me
But now I’m finding out I’m writing off the whole damn thing
I know that you’re no good for me
But I can’t get enough of your body

Chorus:
I just don’t know how to let go
Just don’t know how to say no
Just pick up the phone
Cuz I just don’t know how to be alone

I know that you’re no good for me
I know that you’re no good for me

Chorus:
Just don’t know how to say no
Just don’t know how to be alone
So just pick up the phone
I just don’t know how to let go
